The glucagon hormone helps aid in the management of blood glucose. It does this by stimulating "glycogen metabolism", which is another way of saying the release, remodeling, and conversion of glucose (degradation). In this case, it stimulates liver glycogen metabolism. All in a response to a fall in glucose level. Last note, gluconeogenesis refers to the production of new glucose.
