Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis categorized by chronic degradation of cartilage surrounding the joints. Physical inactivity can cause cartilage decline and increase risk of injury, as joints require movements for nutrients to travel to the cartilage, allowing for the functional range of motion and optimizing the “cushion” effect. Physical activity allows the inflammation in joints to reduce and helps relieve the symptoms of arthritis. If you already have arthritis, some loaded exercise can increase the risk of injury; however, low impact movements can help reduce the inflammation and relieve the symptoms.
