Important concept that should be discussed is the Citric Acid or Krebs cycle and how fat can be used as a fuel. Krebs cycle is the sequence of generating energy during the process of respiration and consuming oxygen. It takes place in the mitochondria, producing carbon dioxide (from oxygen consumption) and water to convert ADP molecules for energy-rich ATP. To burn fat as fuel, Lipase is the enzyme that splits triglycerides into molecules and fatty acids. The breaking up of lipids process is known as lipolysis. In cell deconstruction, triglycerides enters through a process of beta oxidation (fats are broken down in the mitochondria) and reduced to smaller components. Just remember that participating in routine exercise workouts increases lipid metabolism.
