Insulin is a hormone which is produced in the pancreas. It regulates and controls blood sugar levels in the body. Type 1 diabetic individuals have a pancreas that does not secrete sufficient amounts of insulin. Type 2 diabetic individuals have built a resistance to insulin, which produces high blood sugar levels. Individuals with type 1 diabetes and some with type 2 are treated with synthetic insulin.
