General Obligation (GO) bonds are unsecured bonds issued with the backing and credit of the issuing government. This can come in the form of city or state, just to list a few examples, all of which are tax exempt. The credit analysis of GO bonds have similarities to sovereign debt analysis, however, municipalities must balance their operating budgets annually.
