Open-End Funds will accept new investment money and will issue additional shares at a value equal to the Net Asset Value (NAV). A Closed-End Fund does not allow any new investment money, and new investors invest by buying existing shares. Therefore, in Close-End, the number of shares outstanding do not change. As a result, where open end funds trade at NAV, the closed-end may sell for a premium or discount to NAV.
