Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that the simple things have the power to drive large scaled happiness. For instance, we all hear about the effects of compounding. Essentially, it is continual growth due to taking action with more frequency. Now with that said, what happens if we take that concept and apply it with societal gestures that produce acceptance, respect, admiration, and humility. Yes folks, we are talking about the power of a high five.
The mechanics are simple. It is one movement with one body part. Genuinely, it is easier than having to do a handshake. The difficult thing is high fives are usually reserved because we haven’t embraced it as we did a handshake. Again, I will not undermine the power of a good handshake, but a high five between people brings an almost childish happiness back into our lives. And it has the power to break proverbial walls between people, garner friendships, and definitely identify a culture of respect. Now some of you are asking, “Why are they making such a big deal for a high five”. The simple answer is because we do not do enough of it. We challenge you next time you are in work, to high five your stakeholders. Instantaneously, you will feel a positive change to relationships and you will have fortified an already existing bridge and may fix broken ones. High fives come in different forms, but the overall theme remains constant. The mechanics are simple. But the positive effects are potentially perpetual. A high five is a humble handshake. It has no hierarchy, rank, or prejudice. It is inclusive and multi-cultural. It is something we should all consider doing at least daily. So folks, HIGH FIVE!
