Bioenergetics is the study of how energy transforms into living organisms. Law of thermodynamics tells us that energy cannot be created or destroyed, therefore, transferred. We as humans eat food and that energy is called the calorie. Calorie which we sometimes foolishly over or under consume is just at its roots, the quantity of heat necessary to raise 1 gram of water of one degree Celsius. Keep in mind that our community uses the term calories for “kilocalories” to avoid confusion. The calories we see in labels are technically kilocalories, because a calorie in itself is very small. So when you see a 100 calorie snack pack, in reality it is 100 kilocalories (“kcal”).
