Body Mass, Immobility, and Pain does affect our flexibility or range of motion. Increase in body fat may not necessarily decrease ROM as muscle tissues possess the same elasticity. Weightlifting, for example, may help improve flexibility. However, excess fat mass can limit movements. For instance, obesity leads to pathological effects and pain signals that reduce ROM.
Immobilization can cause degenerative loss in strength, flexibility, and structurally change connective tissues with lipids. Pain can cause limited ROM, therefore warming up can reduce discomfort and help optimize stretching routines.
