There are some internal factors that we should take into account to properly have the right aerobic routine. Genetics, age, and gender all have a determinant role in our training. We have predispositions to specific fiber concentrations, stroke volumes, and metabolic pathways, which directly affects our performance.
Aerobic capacity, with older age, typically declines, but accounting for it and living an active lifestyle can slow the decline of fitness and muscle mass. With gender, males generally have larger levels of VO2 measures because differences in heart size, levels of stroke volume, and muscle mass. With that said, females do have the same improvements in fitness when in training and have higher cardiac outputs to compensate for the VO2 difference.
