Connective Tissue does affect our flexibility or range of motion. The breakdown of our body relative to movement resistance is, respectively, the following for Joint Capsule, Muscle Fascia, Tendon, and Skin (in %): 47, 41, 10, and 2. Moreover, collagen makes up 33% of the body’s structural protein and its inelastic properties allows it to be the main constituent of tendons and ligaments, but it does create limitations to ROM.
Elastic fibers are located close to the collagen fibers that have more elongation properties. These elastic fibers help provide fiber/blood vessel/nerve alignment, contributes to force transfer, conserves muscle tone during relaxation, enhances coordination, and aids in tissue reconstruction following deformation.
