The colloquial “bro” or “sis” science tells us, “we need to eat our protein and carbs one hour after our workout” to essentially and sufficiently maximize our recovery time. Before anything, it is BEST to feed your body after a workout. That is rule of thumb. But, it is also egregious to say that if you don’t take anything with the 30 minute to 1 hour window after a workout, that you don’t absorb the nutrients.
Therefore, to those “bros” and “sis”, when you say its an hour or nothing, not necessarily, because although it is preferred to consume the protein closer to the end of the workout (which is part of the reason why we see the protein shaker bottles at the gym), you can wait up to six hours after a workout if need be. This is taken by studies from the Journal of International Society of Sports Nutrition. And our bodies are relative because of how we shape them through our lives, but you can use rule of thumbs. Don’t let the loud screaming and grunting “bro” and “sis” society fool you.
