The body is a complicated and functioning organism. There are a myriad of activities, cell receptors, nerves, and other interconnected variables. But Irritable Bowel Syndrome can be closely tied to our nervous system. To help prevent it, partly of course, is by reducing your stress and being sensitive (and more so aware) with the food you are eating. Given that our stomach is connected by our esophagus and intestines, which run close to our nervous system, a good mental state could be the answer to a good digestive tract.
