There has been a rise in the abuse of opioids, mostly driven by the over prescription of drugs. The typical cause and effect includes: (1) The cause of confusing chronic pain for acute pain to help “immediately” reduce pain “at the moment”, and then (2) The Effect of “needing” or “growing an addiction”. Essentially, chronic pain is more difficult to manage because of inflammation that occurs at the site of injury and then all the neuron receptors and stimuli from the nervous system.
